Campaign
Stop Transit Cuts
CONTEXT
The proposed 2017-2018 budget called for significant cuts to Miami-Dade County transit services. The results would have been reduced service hours, route eliminations, poorer frequencies, and compromised maintenance at a time when increased and improved transit service was critical.
GOAL
We mobilized citizens and stakeholders to build political pressure and raise awareness around the cuts to the transit system, with the goal of reversing them. We mailed over 800 postcards signed by transit riders to the Mayor.
STATUS
Results
Thanks to our advocacy, the county funded the transit system by $15 million, restoring Metrorail headways and preventing further cuts to the bus system.
